Alcohol Ink Workshop

Create Your Own Abstract Art!

Class fee: $65

If the images on this page intrigue or inspire you, I welcome you to come take a class that will instruct you on the use of alcohol inks, like those shown here.

We have several classes each month, all hosted at my workshop in El Cajon.

Lunch is provided, in addition to coffee, tea, and soft drinks.

What you will learn in this class:

In the class, you will be shown techniques to create unique artworks using alcohol inks.

  • You will be shown how to use canned air & straws to manipulate the ink on your paper.
  • Varnishing best practices will be demonstrated, as well as tips for how to add texture to canvas works.
  • Students will produce three individual works, ranging in size from 5″x 7″ to 9″x 12″.

By class conclusion, students will have learned the skills needed to produce these works in any size, in the comfort of their own home. 🙂

Materials:

You will be painting on Yupo Paper and canvas board, and you will have access to a full range of colors and metallics (Pinata and Ranger are the brands we use in class)

A bit of info on the example images on this page:

Some of these paintings are done on Yupo paper (which is a synthetic paper). Alcohol inks are used on non-porous surfaces. For canvas backgrounds, I like to add two coats of Gesso, letting each coat fully dry before use. Black pen drawings can be added once the ink is dry.

The unique, organic shapes are created by using canned air and straws to move the alcohol ink paint. Stencils and modeling paste can be used to add dimension to the dried painting.
